Biblioteca Merce Lleixa

One of the library’s objectives is contributing to the cultural development of the town. The activities want to promote the use of the library and increase the interest in literature, of adults as well as children.

Volunteer’s tasks in the library:

The main task of the volunteers will be the attention to the youngsters, children through the support of the activities and programmed projects aimed at the promotion of education and the tutoring outside school, education of values of coexistence, tolerance and solidarity.

The volunteers will offer support in the different activities yet they can also develop their own initiatives in personal projects:

  • Helping the users according to their needs (formative, informative, research, educational, etc.);
  • Helping the coordination of the youth section material in order to know the documentary funds, book loan service;
  • Helping the youngsters of the Xirinxina centre with their homework and the information research in the library;
  • Helping in the setting of exhibitions, the book day (Sant Jordi) and other cultural activities;
  • Personal Project: prepare, present, find support, realize and evaluate his own initiative;
  • Cooperation with the coordinator organization: telling tales in IES Cristófol Despuig in Sant Jordi party, and the Library of Tortosa for the day of the mother tongue or the day of the poetry;
  • Diffusion of volunteering opportunities, EVS and Erasmus Plus: create together with other EVS or former EVS volunteers and members of Obre’t’ebre, talks and/or theatre plays in formal and nonformal educative centres or cultural centres.

Centre Obert La Xirinxina

The Centre Xirinxina provides services of socio-educational nature, mostly to help in the development of students’ personality and socializing, and helps children and young people from 6 to 12 years to acquire basic competences and leisure time and also compensates some social limitations. It gives attention to children who had a school change and have an insufficient academic level.

Volunteer’s tasks in La Xirinxina:

  • Hosting, lunch break and ludic activities: when the children arrive at the centre they eat. If there is a child who brought no food he/she will be offered some;
  • Tutoring: the group will be divided in two groups according to their age (6-9-year-old and 10-12- year-old) with a maximum of 10 children per monitor. The small groups allow a more individual attention with the aim of answering the concrete needs of each child. The volunteer will help the children and youngsters with their homework;
  • Games and free time activities, workshops etc. when the children have done their homework: the activities’ topic changes in a periodical cycle, for example: recycling, the cultures, peace, nature, etc. The volunteer will help with games and the activities and has the possibility to propose some that he/she knows;
  • One Friday of every month, there are activities for fathers and mothers who want to participate voluntarily with their children. The activities are varied: cinema, sports, storytelling, music therapy, etc;
  • On Wednesdays, the smaller children go to the storytelling activity of the library, the bigger ones play football on Thursdays;
  • Gathering of the material used and farewell: at 19.30 the material is gathered and organized altogether by all the children. Afterwards the children and monitors gather to talk about the day and make proposals to improve;
  • Help with the organization of the traditional festive days are celebrated (Castanyada, Christmas, Carnival);
  • Personal Project: prepare, present, find support, realize and evaluate his own initiative;
  • The volunteer will be proposed to participate in off-hours activities some afternoon or evening or during the weekends, the volunteer will get back its free time before or after the activity;
  • Cooperation with the organization: telling tales in IES Cristófol Despuig in Sant Jordi party, and the Library of Tortosa for the day of the mother tongue or the day of the poetry;
  • Diffusion of volunteering opportunities, EVS and Erasmus Plus: create together with other EVS or former EVS volunteers and members of Obre’t’ebre, talks and/or theatre plays in formal and nonformal educative centres or cultural centres.

Eligibility

  • We require an active volunteer, dynamic, with communication skills, empathetic, assertive and open to know people from different cultures and someone who does not get frustrated rapidly;
  • The main requirement is that you are motivated to learn and to take initiative;
  • We value positively the interest and expertise in leisure, education, culture and social work with youth and children;
  • We require a basic level of Spanish language in order to integrate quickly and understand what to do;
  • The main purpose of the volunteers will be the attention to young people;
  • They will give their support in the actions and planned projects for young people in the field of education of the values of coexistence, tolerance and solidarity;
  • The volunteers will offer their support and help in various activities required, but they may also develop their capacity of initiative in the projects that the may develop;
  • On the other hand, according to the demand of young people in the Youth Point, they could launch a project with the help of the youth worker, in order to promote the integration of young immigrants.

Benefits

The volunteer will receive food allowance of 130 EUR per month;

  • The accommodation is in the city of Tortosa;
  • Facilities are shared with other volunteers participating in the project;
  • Each volunteer has a separate or shared room, depending on the circumstances;
  • The volunteer will receive a monthly allowance or pocket money of 105 EUR at the end of each month;
  • The working hours are maximum 35 hours per week;
  • The volunteer will receive 2 days off per month;
  • Volunteers will receive a language course in Spanish and Catalan language;
  • Travel expenses from home country to the venue of the project will be reimburse.
