Eligibility:

For Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) applicants

You are eligible if you meet the standard entry requirements for the PhD or MPhil and plan to undertake your research within the field of veterinary science. 

For Doctor of Veterinary Clinical Science (DVClinSci) applicants

You are eligible if you meet the pre-requisite entry requirements for the DVClinSci Program:​​​​​​

  • BVSc (Hons) with honours class IIB or higher; OR  
  • Postgraduate degree in Veterinary Science of at least one-year full-time equivalent including relevant experience with an overall GPA of 5; 
  • Possess at least 2 years of relevant clinical experience or at least 1 year of internship experience with a specialist veterinarian 
  • Relevant research experience to demonstrate ‘research preparedness’  
  • Eligible for immediate or current registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland. 

In conjunction with your application, all applicants are asked to briefly outline a potential project concept in the form of a one-page research project description that outlines suggested advisors and your chosen discipline. For all programs, applicants must contact potential academic advisors from School of Veterinary Science (SVS) and align their proposal with both their own research interests but also the research expertise of our UQ Experts

Please note that any project proposal would be draft concepts only and the successful applicant would work with the chosen advisory team to finalise a viable and funded project, prior to School of Veterinary Sciences endorsement.  

If you application is for the DVClinSci Program, the applicant must contact a discipline lead to confirm availability for a professional program and an appropriate clinical supervisor. 

There is a preference for the successful applicants to commence in January 2025.

  • your academic performance and achievement, evidence of research capability, quality of research project
  • the quality of your proposed research environment including resourcing
  • the quality of your proposed advisory team including record of successful supervision, appropriate advisory load, complementary expertise.
  • potential for scholastic success
  • (DVClinSci only) relevant clinical experience  
  • any other matters the selection committee considers to be relevant to the applicant’s future research development.
